Module Indicative Content
The aim of this module is to analyse the practices, processes and techniques that Human Resource Managers may use in response to the key issues that most employers face when considering the needs of their organisation in terms of people planning and resource management.

The 4 key themes are:

1. Planning
2. Recruitment and Selection
3. Managing
4. Releasing

Topics may include:-
- Human Resource Planning perspective
- Flexible firm and flexible working
- Work planning
- Recruitment strategies
- Recruitment process
- Selection - including competency based
- Resourcing for Human Capital Advantage
- Job design and satisfaction
- Labour market trends
- Recruitment and the law
- Employee involvement
- Employee engagement and disengagement and the psychological contract
- Managing poor performance
- Right sizing the organisation
Module Learning Strategies
The learning strategy for this module requires students to commit 150 learning hours (including assessment). This will include 24 hours of class support and 126 hours of independent and self directed study.

The class sessions will include formal lecture, student exercises, case study analysis and group discussions based on student experiences in the subject area. Students will be encouraged to integrate their work based experiences with new knowledge and skills developed in the classroom as the module progresses.
