Module Learning Outcome
A critical evaluation of the debates surrounding the changing role of the voluntary sector
A critical appraisal of how these debates impact on the sector and how they affect your working practices
Module Additional Assessment Details
A case-study of 2,000-2,500 words. The organisational case study will require you to demonstrate the reading of relevant texts and use of other sources in order to show critical appreciation of the ways in which changes in policy and practice have affected a specific voluntary sector organisation.

Module Learning Strategies
This module incorporates three inter-related learning strategies. The two day workshops will be used for the development of the core issues in the changing agenda of voluntary organisations. The tutorials will allow discussion of the individual critical research students are undertaking to prepare their case-studies. The independent study will allow reading around selected topics, the development of individual critical responses to the reading, and the preparation for the work-based individual case-study.
Module Indicative Content
This module enables you to explore the changing environment of voluntary sector organisations and the policy debates surrounding the future of the sector in the United Kingdom. It examines recent developments in voluntary sector organisations and how changes in community governance are posing new challenges and opportunities for those working in the voluntary sector. You will analyse the professionalisation of the voluntary sector, the impact of recent policy initiatives on the role of voluntary organisations, the challenges and opportunities posed by the partnership role of voluntary organisations in community governance, and the possible avenues of future development for the voluntary sector.
Module Assessment
A CASE ANALYSIS length 2500 WORDS weighted at 100%.
