Module Additional Assessment Details
There are two parts to the assessment at the end of the semester.

1) A written examination of 3 hours in length based on the text types you have studied
throughout the module. 60% (LO 1, 2)
2) An individual presentation of 10-12 minutes based on a critical incident of communication breakdown in an international business context. The presentation should cover the overview of the incident, the cause of the breakdown and how it could have been avoided. 40% (LO 3, 4)
Module Learning Strategies
You will have four hours of class time per week. This time will be spent developing the skills you will
need to succeed on your course. Teaching methods will include working in groups and individually. Your tutor will present regular instruction and give your activities which will include group discussion, role play, and pair-work.

You will use the Independent Learning Time to practise the four basic skills: listening, reading, speaking and writing as well as researching information for your assignments. The Module Tutor will provide a carefully devised programme of tasks to help you improve your skills in general English contexts, provide practice in the modes forming the assessment and give you the opportunity to engage in formative assessment with frequent and prompt feedback will be provided to help you improve your performance.

This course is for speakers of English as a second language with IELTS 6.0 or equivalent.
Module Indicative Content
This advanced English for Business Communication module is broadly based on the syllabus of the
London Chamber of Commerce and Industry Level 3 examination, in that it provides you with an advanced ability to understand, write and process authentic business texts. The module also allows you to participate in oral business communication following, for example, simulated roles or case-study type scenarios.

The module enables you to communicate in writing in different styles appropriate for different contexts at an advanced level.

The module will also enable you to communicate in a range of scenarios such as job interviews, presentations, meetings, negotiations and discussions.
