Module Learning Strategies
Most of the teaching will be in workshop mode, involving for example pair work, group work, mini-presentations from by the tutor and students. Resources will typically include various forms of media, for example, newspapers, YouTube, films, TV (e.g. BBC iPlayer, DVDs), radio, reproductions of works of art, etc. You have 3 hours of class contact per week for 12 weeks, and you will be expected to study outside the class for around 100 hours.
Module Additional Assessment Details
The assessment for this module comprises two elements:
1) A 2000 word coursework essay (weighted at 80%, LO 1, 2, 3)
Students will select one of the topics covered in the module and explore it in more detail.
2) A 10 minute speaking test (weighted at 20%, LO 1, 4)
Students will be asked questions on any of the topics covered in the module (except for the topic on which their coursework essay is based).
Module Indicative Content
This module has two main aims:
1) To explore with international students whose native language is not English key aspects of contemporary British culture.
2) To enable such students to enhance their linguistic competence in these areas.
