Module Learning Strategies
Participants will attend 18 hours of face-to-face sessions, delivered either via 3 x 6 hour sessions or 9x2 hour sessions, to include an assignment workshop. Participants will be encouraged to contribute to online discussion threads to support critical debate of current theory. The sessions will include a variety of learning and teaching strategies. Participants will be expected to consolidate and build upon their learning through significant use of texts, journals and professional publications.
A range of activities will be differentiated by level to ensure academic challenge. Tutors will monitor performance within tasks to ensure that task objectives are met and outcomes are consistent with the level of study.
In addition there will be a requirement to engage in independent study in order to develop knowledge and understanding from the taught sessions. Independent learning should include the analysis of learning and the relevance to own role, contributions to discussions boards to appraise key concepts in leadership and management and analysis of relevant literature.
Module Additional Assessment Details
Assessment will be to:
Produce an article in the format of a professional publication which demonstrates understanding and shows evidence of investigation and analysis of current research in the leadership and management field. The article should consider the impact this has on managing in HE (1200 words - 50%)

In addition you will make a presentation (and produce a set of accompanying notes) which summarises the research and suggests strategies for improvement in own work area (800 words - 50%) ( learning outcome 2,3,4 - partially).
Participants are required to successfully pass (min grade point 4) both parts of the assessment in order to pass the module.
Module Indicative Content
This module will give participants an opportunity to gain an understanding of the central themes in the field of leadership and management. Organised into three themes the module covers the key aspects of leadership and management including;

- Communication & Change
6. Models of leadership e.g. Transactional, transformational, situational & contingency
7. Transition and change management
8. Enhanced leadership communication (negotiation and persuasion)
Participants will be encouraged to engage in analysis and application of theoretical principles to develop an awareness of the impact on leadership and management in HE.
