Module Additional Assessment Details
An individual assignment of 2500 words in the form of a report, presenting information on inclusive teaching practice in Higher Education.
Module Learning Strategies
The learning strategy for the module requires students to commit to 150 learning hours (including assessment), of which 36 hours will be tutor-directed study and 114 hours will be independent and self-directed study.
Whilst the tutor will input some basic ideas on the main issues, candidates will be expected to carry out research and to take part in group discussions to develop these ideas.
There will be a mixture of tutor-led activities using various media delivery methods including use of Blackboard VLE.
Module Indicative Content
The student will explore the context and agenda for widening participation and its impact on inclusive teaching from award to module development and the components of those modules. In order to do this they will be exposed to:
Contemporary views on widening participation and inclusion
The legislative framework for managing discrimination.
The construction of identity- explanations for segregation
In order to prepare the student for extended study and to develop a deeper understanding of inclusivity they will be guided to research ways in which Further and Higher Education Institutions can promote equality of opportunity and the management of diversity in teaching. This may involve
Assessing the role of the Professional Bodies
Examining case studies where issues relating to discrimination have been identified
Evaluating a range of inclusive teaching strategies and their application
Recommending a range of strategies to promote inclusive pedagogy
