Module Additional Assessment Details
An individual assignment presenting information on an aspect of inclusive pedagogy in higher and professional education (2500 words). This will include a literature review and recommendations presented in a way relevant to the student's role and negotiated with the module tutor.
Module Learning Strategies
The module requires students to commit to 150 learning hours (including assessment), of which 16 hours will be tutor-directed study (5x3hr plus 1 hr tutorial) and 134 hours will be independent self-directed study.

Whilst the tutors will input some basic ideas on the main issues, candidates will be expected to carry out background reading and research, and to take part in group discussions to develop these ideas.

There will be a mixture of tutor-led activities using various media, and delivery will include the use to the Blackboard VLE.
Module Indicative Content
The student will explore the context and agenda for equality and diversity and its impact on inclusive teaching, learning and assessment. In order to do this they will be exposed to:
- Contemporary views on stereotyping, prejudice, discrimination, equality and inclusion
- The legislative framework for managing discrimination in learning contexts
- Current research on identity and the protected characteristics in a higher and professional education context
In order to prepare the student for extended study and to develop a deeper understanding of inclusivity they will be guided to research ways in which higher and professional educators can promote equality of opportunity and the management of diversity in teaching. This may involve:
- Discussing case studies where issues relating to discrimination have been identified
- Investigating a range of inclusive teaching strategies and their application
- Exploring inclusive pedagogy
- Exploring the role of professional bodies in promoting equality and inclusion
